A routine check-up is a preventative medical appointment with no presenting symptoms or complaints. Our long-term expat health Basic and Premium plans both include annual allowances for medical and dental routine check-ups, subject to waiting periods. Any findings made during a covered check-up are also covered within the same annual allowance.

What is a routine check-up?

A routine check-up is a preventative medical appointment where no symptoms or health concerns are present. The purpose of the visit is purely to assess your general health before any issues arise.

For example, an annual dental visit where you have no pain or complaints but want to be assessed as a preventative measure.

What is not considered a routine check-up?

Any visit to a medical professional for a specific symptom or complaint is not considered a routine check-up.

For example, if you develop elbow pain and visit a doctor to have it assessed, that appointment has a presenting complaint and falls outside the definition of a routine check-up.

What do the Basic and Premium plans cover for routine check-ups?

Both the Basic and Premium long-term expat health plans include annual allowances for medical and dental routine check-ups, with waiting periods that apply before coverage activates:

  • Basic plan — medical routine check-up: €450 per year, after a 12-month waiting period

  • Basic plan — dental check-up: €750 per year, after a 6-month waiting period

  • Premium plan — medical routine check-up: €750 per year, after a 12-month waiting period

  • Premium plan — dental check-up: €1,125 per year, after a 6-month waiting period

What happens if something is found during a routine check-up?

Coverage for a routine check-up and any findings from that check-up are treated together within your annual allowance. If your plan includes routine check-up coverage, both the check-up and any follow-up care resulting from findings made during it are covered up to your annual limit.
