Expat health insurance (also called incoming insurance) is a type of health cover designed for people who have recently moved to France. We offer 2 plans: a short-term plan and a long-term plan. Both cover accidents, emergencies, and new illnesses, but neither covers pre-existing conditions (with some exceptions on the long-term plan). Because of these limitations, expat health insurance is one of the more affordable options available in France.
What are the differences between the short-term and long-term expat plans?
We offer 2 expat health insurance plans depending on how long you've been in France and what level of cover you need.
Short-term expat plan:
Starting at €72 per month, this is our most affordable expat health insurance option.
Covers accidents, emergencies, and new illnesses.
Valid for up to 5 years from the date you entered France.
You can sign up for our short-term expat health plan here.
Long-term expat plan:
Covers accidents, emergencies, and new illnesses, plus some additional care, including preventative care, holistic care, and psychotherapy.
Can be used indefinitely, with no time limit.
Best suited for people who have exceeded the 5-year limit on the short-term plan, or who aren't yet eligible for public or full private health insurance.
You can sign up to our long-term plan here.
Does expat health insurance cover pre-existing conditions?
Expat health insurance does not cover treatment for pre-existing conditions. The long-term expat plan includes some exceptions, such as limited preventative care, but coverage for pre-existing conditions is not included in either plan. This is one of the main reasons expat health insurance is priced lower than public or private health insurance alternatives.
When should I consider expat health insurance instead of public or private health insurance?
Expat health insurance is best suited for people who have recently moved to France and are not yet eligible to join the public healthcare system. If you are eligible for either the sécurité sociale, we'd almost always recommend choosing it instead, since it provides more comprehensive coverage, including for pre-existing conditions.
